The NanoKnee Model
NanoKnee isn't a surgical practice or implant manufacturer. We're a collaborative network of board-certified surgeons, biomedical engineers, and business leaders dedicated to helping joint replacement patients move freely. All of our surgeons run independent, private practices, and we do not interfere with their patient relationships, offerings, or internal workflows.
Behind every procedure is a biomedical engineering team that develops a detailed digital surgical blueprint for each patient case. We focus on consistent surgical planning, muscle-sparing methods, and high-quality patient experiences.
Core Services
Knee procedures:
- Total knee replacement revision
- Partial knee replacement
- Total knee replacement
- Knee pain evaluation and treatment
Hip procedures:
Support for patients:
- Outpatient knee and hip surgery
- Pre-operative checklist and preparation
- Post-op support, including follow-up visits and virtual check-ins
- Concierge coordination for patients traveling from out of state or abroad
Nano 3D Blueprinting
Nano® 3D Blueprinting is NanoKnee's 3D surgical planning process. It turns a pre-operative CT scan into a digital model of the patient's joint, which biomedical engineers use to size, position, and align the implant for that patient's anatomy before surgery. The plan is customized; the implant is not.
- CT scan of the hip, knee, and ankle following the NanoKnee imaging protocol.
- Digital reconstruction of the bones and joint surfaces in three dimensions.
- Engineering plan by NanoKnee's biomedical engineers for implant size, position, rotation, and alignment.
- Surgeon review and approval, with adjustments based on the surgeon's examination and clinical judgment.
- Surgery performed by the surgeon using the approved plan as a guide.
NanoKnee uses FDA-cleared implants from established manufacturers. It does not manufacture custom implants. Proprietary AI algorithms are used only in pre-operative planning, to make parts of the engineers' measurement work faster and more consistent. Engineers and the surgeon review and approve every plan, and nothing in the operating room is automated.

Surgical Approach and Recovery
NanoKnee partner surgeons use muscle-sparing, minimally invasive methods for appropriate candidates. For knee replacement this includes a quadriceps-sparing (subvastus) approach that reaches the joint without cutting the quadriceps tendon. Each surgeon decides which approach fits a patient's anatomy and history.
NanoKnee reports these typical patient experiences after its outpatient procedures:
- Walking within 30 minutes after surgery
- Returning home within 2 hours
- Walking unassisted within 24 hours
- Returning to daily activities within 10 days
Results vary from patient to patient. No surgery can guarantee a recovery timeline, and patients should discuss expectations with their surgeon.

Common Questions
What is NanoKnee? NanoKnee is a collaborative network of board-certified orthopedic surgeons, biomedical engineers, and business leaders focused on hip and knee replacement. It is not a surgical practice or an implant manufacturer.
Who performs the surgery? An independent, private-practice NanoKnee partner surgeon performs it. NanoKnee does not interfere with its surgeons' patient relationships, offerings, or internal workflows, and the surgeon makes every clinical decision.
What is Nano 3D Blueprinting? It is NanoKnee's 3D surgical planning process. Biomedical engineers build a model from the patient's CT scan and plan implant size, position, and alignment, and the surgeon reviews and approves the plan before surgery.
Does NanoKnee use custom implants? No. NanoKnee uses FDA-cleared implants from established manufacturers. What is customized is the surgical plan, not the implant.
