Daniel Sumko, MD

Dr. Sumko is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon whose practice centers on adult reconstruction, including hip and knee replacement. After completing fellowship training at The CORE Institute in Phoenix, he returned to Utah, where he grew up, to care for patients close to home.

His path into medicine started at home. Dr. Sumko's father was an orthopedic surgeon in the small town where he was raised, and the lasting relationships his father built with patients left a strong impression. Today, Dr. Sumko brings that same commitment to joint replacement in Salt Lake City and the surrounding communities, offering NANO Knee and NANO Hip replacements along with a full range of orthopedic care.

Dr. Sumko's Approach to Patient Care

Dr. Sumko's care philosophy is built on shared decision-making. He sits down with each patient to explain the diagnosis, walk through every treatment option, and make the plan together. In his words, "Two-way communication is key to providing the proper treatment for each individual patient."

Most importantly, he takes a balanced and measured approach. Nonsurgical management comes first whenever it is a reasonable option. When those treatments have not worked, Dr. Sumko is passionate about delivering the best possible surgical care, using current techniques and protocols to support strong outcomes.

The part of orthopedics he values most is the change he sees in patients' lives. Few things mean more to him than a patient who returns pain-free, doing things they could not do before, and enjoying life again.
