Game-changing Innovation For the World’s Most Active Patients

At Nanoknee™, our surgeons are ushering in a brand new era – restoring knees to their peak performance. We perform knee replacements on an outpatient basis, preserve soft tissue, and get patients back on their feet immediately after surgery.

Your Strong + Flexible Knee Restored

Don’t settle for poorly-fitted implants and diminished range of motion. At Nanoknee™, we restore your bone surface so that it feels and performs just like it always did, before the pain took over.

Instability. Stiffness. Discomfort. How We Prevent Common Knee Replacement Problems

Our research and clinical experience operating on countless joints show that the best results in knee replacement surgery require balance. It is critical that we strike the appropriate tension between the soft tissues. When these structures are unbalanced, it can contribute to a host of problems that result in a necessary revision – including instability, stiffness, and aseptic loosening.

For these reasons, our team is especially focused on obtaining ultra-precise balance in the knee during surgery. We know that’s what gets our patients back on their feet faster – and keeps them there long-term.

What Should I Expect From the Procedure?

Your surgery will be done on an outpatient basis – which means you’ll return home right after the procedure. We will administer twilight anesthesia, and you’ll be on your feet as soon as the operation is complete. Your knee will fully bend; you can bear weight on your joint, and you’ll return to some activities right away.

We’ll restore your strong and healthy knee – without much of the pain and prolonged rehabilitation that’s typically associated with a traditional knee replacement.

What Should I Expect After Surgery?

After the procedure, you can expect to feel better every day. The recovery is fast, with minimal pain – and you can look forward to a quick return to work, exercise, and your normal daily routine.

There are no limits to what you can do after a Nanoknee™ total knee replacement. You can return to everything.

Supporting Your New Knee Moving Forward

Regular exercise is an important part of the recovery process after a knee replacement. It strengthens the muscles that surround the knee and helps you maintain a healthy weight, which can prevent damage to your joints. Useful activities as you heal are:

  • Walking
  • Tennis
  • Biking
  • Strengthening exercises
  • Water aerobics
  • Tai chi
  • Yoga

Once the healing process is complete, you can expect to make a full return to your favorite sports and activities. With Nanoknee™, there are no limits.

How long do Nano knees last?

The innovative materials we use mean your Nano knee will last the rest of your life – with a high level of activity.

Am I a candidate for Nano Knee?

The Nano Knee is cutting-edge technology for active people who want the best. Originally designed for younger patients, it’s the ideal solution if you want a fast recovery and the highest level of function – so you can live life on your terms.

If you’ve been advised to get a knee replacement – but you don’t want to live with the activity limitations and reduced mobility associated with the traditional approach to joint surgery – you’re a candidate for Nano.

Is total knee replacement safe?

Absolutely. When performed by an experienced, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, total knee replacement is a very safe procedure. Approximately 700,000 knee replacement surgeries are performed every year, and 90 percent of those patients are satisfied with the results. Most of these individuals can make a full return to their normal daily activities, and serious complications from surgery are extremely rare.

What are alternatives to knee replacement?

The Nano total, Nano UNI, and Nano Bicompartmental knee procedures are alternatives to traditional total knees.

What is the latest development/advancement/innovations in knee replacement?

Precise, CT guided kinematic alignment through our propriety, machine learning algorithm.

How are state-of-the-art knee replacements/implants handled?

They are implanted based on your natural anatomy to precisely reproduce your knee function, alignment and range of motion.

What is the least invasive procedure for knee replacement?

Our Nano UNI procedure is the least invasive resurfacing procedure that directly addresses knee arthritis.

Can you get a knee replacement with local anesthesia?

The nano procedure is typically done with regional and local anesthetic and “twilight sleep” sedation. “General anesthesia” is not typically utilized.

What activities are possible after knee replacement?

Most of our clients are able to return to their full active lifestyles. This includes tennis, skiing, and running in appropriate cases.

How soon after knee replacement can you exercise?

Clients are allowed to begin exercising immediately after our knee surgery. We begin with walking, isometrics, stretching, and progress to strengthening, exercise, bike, activities, such as golf, and hiking, and then later, running in more extreme activities, including skiing and running.

Can you get knee surgery without a total knee replacement?

Absolutely. Many of our clients receive partial knee resurfacing involving 1/3 or 2/3 of the joint, preserving all normal structures and restoring normal alignment and ligament balance.

What are the advantages of Nano vs other knee replacement surgeries?

Faster and more complete return of function compared to the typical “traditional” knee replacement surgery, with less pain, and without the need for hospitalization, and painful physical therapy.

Can I expect to regain the full range of motion in my knee after surgery?

Yes, most of my patients regain the full range of motion they lost over the years through arthritis.

How long will the surgery take for knee replacement?

Typical operative time is 90 minutes for the Nano procedure.

What type of anesthesia will be used during the surgery?

Most clients undergo spinal regional anesthesia with local anesthetic and block. Additionally, they were given twilight sleep, so they’re unaware of the surgery.

What is the recovery time for knee surgery?

Recovery time after Nano procedures vary, but most people are up and walking immediately after surgery and are able to perform light activities the first week. A rough guide is as follows:

  • 7-14 Days: routine daily activity
  • 2-4 Weeks: moderate activity
  • 4-8 Weeks: return to active lifestyle

Will I need to stay in the hospital after knee replacement surgery?

Most nano procedures are performed on an outpatient basis with a client leaving the facility 90 to 120 minutes after the completion of the procedure.

How long will it take for the incision to heal?

Incisions are generally healed in two weeks, although it is protected for the first 2 to 3 months after your procedure.

Will there be any scarring after the surgery?

The Nano procedure includes a cosmetic plastic surgical closure to minimize any scarring.

Will I need physical therapy after the surgery?

Most Nano patients are able to perform self guided home therapy without the need for formal outpatient therapy.

What are the potential risks and complications of the surgery?

Risks are similar to those of traditional knee replacement, but generally reduced because of the less invasive surgical procedure and the use of regional rather than general anesthesia.

Can I expect any long-term side effects from the surgery?

You should expect a progressive return of function with resolution of the arthritis pain, ultimately, after our knee replacement.

Is Nano knee replacement covered by insurance?

All insurance plans are required to cover knee replacement surgery. Nonetheless, patients should reach out to their provider to find out how much their copay will be.

What types of insurance cover Nano knee replacement?

Essentially all insurance plans that cover minimally invasive surgeries will cover Nano knee replacement surgery.

What is the cost of Nano knee replacement?

Depending on your coverage, you may be responsible for up to $8500 for the engineering related to the 3-D modeling utilizing our proprietary Planned Restricted Inverse Kinematic Alignment algorithm (iKA).
